LVT and vinyl floor fitting in Smethwick. Karndean, Amtico and click systems. Subfloor prepared to tolerance, patterns set out, edges cut clean.
LVT shows every lump underneath it, far more than laminate does, which is why the subfloor preparation is most of the labour. Done properly it is the best floor for a Smethwick kitchen or bathroom: warm underfoot, waterproof, and it does not mind a wet dog.
In a Smethwick terrace the kitchen and bathroom are usually the rooms at the back, on a solid floor and often over old quarry tiles. Those tiles can stay if they are sound and well bonded. Loose or hollow ones come up first, because anything that moves under LVT shows through within weeks.
Because the subfloor has to be flat to a much finer tolerance. LVT is thin and flexible, so it shows every ridge and dip beneath it. Most of the extra cost is preparation, not the fitting.
It is the best choice for both. Waterproof, warm underfoot and it takes a spill without complaint, which laminate does not.
Glue-down Karndean or Amtico gives the best finish and lasts longest. Click LVT costs less to fit and is easier to lift later. We will tell you which suits your subfloor rather than which is dearer.
Often, yes, if they are firmly stuck and flat. The grout lines are filled and a latex compound goes over the top so the pattern of the old tiles does not show through. Any that sound hollow come up first.
The latex has to dry before fitting starts, and glue-down LVT wants a day to set before heavy use. In most Smethwick kitchens that means the room is out of action for two days at most.
Yes. The vinyl is cut to the toilet and the edge of the bath, then sealed at the joins. In a small Smethwick bathroom this takes care and time. It keeps water out from under the floor.
01Subfloor to tolerance | Latex levelling compound on solid floors, ply on timber. LVT telegraphs anything left underneath it. |
|---|---|
02Patterns set out first | Herringbone, brick bond or plank, set out from the centre so the cuts land where nobody looks. |
03Glue-down or click | Glue-down for the best finish and the longest life; click where the subfloor or the budget suits it better. We will explain which and why. |
04Wet rooms and kitchens | Sealed at the edges and under the units, so a spill stays on top of the floor. |
05Old quarry floors checked | Sound, well-bonded quarry tiles in the back kitchen can stay under the new floor. Loose or hollow ones are lifted, because LVT shows every movement beneath it. |
06Send these first | Photos of the kitchen or bathroom floor, and one of any old tiles. Give us the room size and say whether the floor is concrete or timber. We tell you what preparation it needs. |
Send a photo or a quick video of the room on WhatsApp and we'll see if we can quote you over the phone, or fill in the form and it opens your email ready to send.
